May 2025: Belonging Begins Here

April proved to be one of our busiest and most impactful months yet at the Foundation! We kicked things off by members of our Board of Directors hosting multiple workshops at this year’s African-American Leadership Conference, where we proudly sponsored the 150 Salem-Keizer students that attended.

We also headed northeast to host our Black and African Family Affinity Night in collaboration with the Office for Equity and the Salem-Keizer School District at McKay High School. This event gave us the opportunity to connect with families and share how deeply we’re committed to investing in the success and future of our students. There was delicious food, meaningful conversation, and we distributed culturally relevant books centered around Black education and culture.

None of this would have been possible without our admin team, program directors, Cynthia Richardson and Angel DeBerry; our Business Consultant, Dr. Jumesha Wade, and her team at Jumesha Wade Coaching and Consulting LLC; and our supportive Board of Directors, and our many financial partners like Business Oregon, Oregon Department of Education, Meyer Memorial Trust, Oregon Community Foundation and more who continue to champion our mission: To develop and grow the Black community through generational leadership, partnering and supporting Black-owned, run, and operated businesses/nonprofits, and strengthening Black families.

As we pivot into spring and summer, we hope to see you at more of our upcoming events—whether we’re hosting a booth or simply showing up in support. Our calendar is growing, and we are committed to creating space for everyone who wants to be involved!
