June 2026: A Letter From The Executive Director

Hello friends, family, and community partners,

How are you measuring success today?

This past May, we had the incredible honor of attending the Black/African American Student Celebration ahead of high school graduation for Salem-Keizer Public School. At this event, around 200 friends, family members, and staff gathered to watch students celebrate their hard-earned achievements. As each student received a special graduation stole, the cheers from the crowd made one thing absolutely clear: Community loves to share in the success of our youth.

Also in May, Dr. Wade delivered the keynote for the Salem Chamber Women’s Business Luncheon where we invited some of our other women to show up in support of her, the work she does with the BE-BLAC Foundation and what she is building within the Salem community. Success doesn’t have to be a solo journey, in fact, we are made stronger when we do things together.

Speaking of success, we are also celebrating succession! Our board recently voted in our next slate of officers. We are thrilled to name Cynthia Richardson as our Board President and Artonya Gemmill as our Board Vice President, while transitioning Raymond White into our first Past President role.

We want to extend a massive thank you to Ray, our founding Board President, for his leadership and guidance in setting the high standards that catapulted our early success as a new organization.

Looking ahead into June, our team is working diligently to support students who are credit-deficient. We are giving 100% to ensure they reach their goals and thrive in their education.

What’s Next? See all of the excitement below! From Family Nights, to Summer Camp opportunities. Also stay tuned for our summer business workshops, to be announced at a later date.

Thank you for being a part of our village,

Greggery Peterson
